I’ve been sponsored, thank you Kathie!
This adorable little fella came to us when his breeder died last month.
He is CFA registered. We believe he has been shown and may even have
Championed. His personality is just too extraordinary to have been left
his entire life in a cage. At least we pray he has spent ANY part of his
life outside of a cage. We did find him in a stuffy garage living in a
small cage, but we hope in our heart that he got to spend some time
being loved somewhere besides a cage. He did come to us with a name, but
it has been lost in the shuffle. For now we're calling him Billie Bob
and we'll update with his official cattery name when we find the
registration papers. It gets a little crazy around here sometimes with
all of the comings and goings, and stuff gets misplaced.
This little fella is so charming. When we had him caged for his intake
quarantine he spent the entire time telling us all about it. The minute
he heard us coming, he started complaining about his captivity. Finally
he got to get out of his cage and he didn't quite know what to do about it. He'd been waiting possibly his whole life and really didn't know
what to do about the whole floor situation. So he wandered around and
then started batting at anything he could find on the floor. He found a
paper towel that had missed the garbage can and started batting that
around. Then he figured out what the little toys were about and slapped
those around. Then he jumped on top of another cat ... oh ... oops. That
didn't go over too well.
Now Billie Bob has gotten the hang of being a Cat About Town. He enjoys
the other cats and doesn't overwhelm them quite so much. He did
startle us with another of his quirky behaviors, though. He started
smacking at us which was surprising because he's such a sweet boy. Then
we realized he wasn't smacking at us, he was trying to grab our fingers.
Once he got ahold of our fingers he would press our hands against his
face and begin rubbing. He wanted his little face washed. He loves to
have his eyes and nose and face cleaned.
Another couple of quirky things he does just add to his charm. One is
the Tail of Joy. When he gets excited his tail vibrates. At first we
thought he was spraying and groaned out loud. But that is not the case.
He's simply excited to see us, be alive, be a cat, and be loved. His
last darling behavior and then we'll stop bragging about our boy: He
reaches out his little paw to touch your face. We even got a little
video of him doing it. It just makes you want to cry it's so sweet and
wistful. What a lover. To think he spent most, if not all, of his life
in a 2x2x3' cage.
Billie Bob needs a nose job. He really needs a a nose job. Due to the
extreme breeding of these cats, he basically has no nose. While to some
that might seem cute and having him snort when he breathes isn't
bothersome. However, what we have learned is that he has stenotic nares.
That means his nostrils are so small that he can barely breathe through
his nose. The effort to breathe puts a huge strain on the lungs and
cardiovascular system and if we don't get his nose opened up, it could
severely limit his lifespan.
The great news is that we've got a vet that has done dozens of these
surgeries for us. Thankfully not every Persian needs this or we couldn't
function as a Rescue for long. We can get the nasal surgery done
including the pre-op blood work for just about $250. That's a
screamin' deal. Please consider donating even a small portion to this
guy's future health. He deserves it. He made some beautiful babies over
his lifetime and probably made his breeder a fortune in kitten fees.
Maybe now his luck will turn and it will be payback time.
